Dear Juno or anyone else in her situation,
While I respect your decision, I feel you have made the most neutral decision possible. You were able to find a way to not have an abortion, appeasing the pro- lifers, but also not keep the baby, appeasing the pro-lifers. Sadly, in the real world, people aren’t lucky enough to randomly find the perfect couple from a Pennysaver ad who will take their baby from them. In real life, you actually have to make some hard decisions. If I was in her situation, I would not want to keep the baby, because I am definitely not ready for that responsibility. I mean, I don’t even know how to drive yet, I couldn’t handle a baby.
Pro Lifers seem very out of place in a very liberal world. And they don’t seem to be representing themselves well. They are synonymous with violent riots and the destruction of abortion clinics. Now if they could just get a better public relations representative, maybe they wouldn’t have such a bad image. But even if they did, the pro-choice option still seems much more reasonable. I think this even though I’m religious. One thing my religion stresses is free will. Our ability to choose. So it only makes sense that I side with the ability to choose.
Now, controversially, I don’t think that sex is something that you can just have for fun. It should be something that should be saved for love, most ideally marriage. But sadly people today do not share this belief. That’s why such things as the Roe v Wade decision exist, because people want to have sex whenever. I do think that they made the right decision, mostly because it is supported by the 14th amendment, and also because I don’t think abortion should be totally illegal. I do support a woman’s right to choose, as previously stated. But I do think that there should be a cut off. I think that when the fetus has a heart, it is then considered a human, and cannot be aborted.
So, to some everything up, I feel that you, Juno, very conveniently found the perfect answer. Sadly, not everyone can have that option. Most of the time they have to decide on whether or not to have an abortion. MY personal position on the subject is that I think abortion should be legal, but except for the case of rape and damage to the mother or child, it should be very limited.
Sincerely
Jason B.
